THE EDUCATION FUND
Zimbabwe Sports and Education Fund is an operational education fund that provides fiscal support to beneficiaries that covers costs associated with gaining an education in Zimbabwe. Generally this includes school fees, educational equipment (such as uniforms and stationary), incidental costs (such as an excursion, or medicines if an illness is preventing the child from attending school), and a monthly donation of food stuffs to ensure they do not go to school starving (as unfortunately they often do). The establishment of a ZimSEF-YASD library in Hatcliffe extension in 2012 further expands the comprehensive approach to education that ZimSEF is committed to.
The fund is structured to provide educational support to beneficiaries until the completion of secondary school A-levels (HSC equivalent). This quality marks ZimSEF as an organisation apart, as we are one of the very few education funds that extend beyond the completion of a primary education.
January 2012 saw the launch of the Fund with 10 children, 6 girls and 4 boys ranging from 6-12 years old, commencing school at two local primary schools – Hatcliffe 1 and Hatcliffe 2.
Due to the success of our fundraising efforts, particularly our fundraiser at Barrio Chino in Sydney’s Kings Cross, the Fund was able to expand in early 2013 to include 2 more students: two girls aged 11 and 12.
